Taunton CS 3

MINEHEAD Ladies I suffered a 3-2 home defeat against Taunton Civil Service on Saturday.

They scored early in the game from a short corner, Vicky Perkins’s cross being converted by Dee Lancaster, but Taunton equalised through a penalty flick awarded after a defending error on the goal-line at a short corner.

Taunton then went 2-1 ahead from a shot which was missed by the incoming attacker but found still its way into the net, and this time it was Minehead’s turn to equalised Lancaster’ shot was saved by the keeper but the rebound was picked up and slotted home by Vicky Perkins.

Taunton regained the lead when a pass into the D was guided past the Minehead defenders into the back of the net, and it remained 3-2 at half-time after Minehead had a goal disallowed when the initial shot from a short corner was deemed too high.

Taunton had dominated through excellent movement and good ball control, always attacking in numbers, but in the second half Minehead’s determination and aggression in attack got them back in the game.

They dominated much of the play but were unable to pull back the vital equaliser, going closest when one shot was cleared off the line.

At the other end, Taunton could easily have scored more goals but they were kept out by some fine saves by keeper Jan Weetch and good clearances by the defence.

Minehead could argue they didn’t get the run of the ball, but their first touch was poor and their movement and pace let them down.

The Chanin and Thomas player of the match was keeper Jan Weetch.
