MINEHEAD Ladies’ first team finished their season on a high with an impressive 6-0 home victory against Taunton Vale III.
It rounded off a succcessful campaign in the West Clubs Women’s Hockey League which has seen them finish second in Sedgemoor Division One.
They were on the front foot from the start, pressurising the Vale defence, but it wasn’t just before half-time that their pressure told with a goal from a short corner, Vicky Perkins and Denise Lancaster exchanging passes at the top of the D before Lancaster slotted home.
Soon after half-time, Minehead’s pressure resulted in another short corner from which Lancaster scored again in carbon copy fashion.
They then really asserted their dominance, with Perkins running through on goal to slip the ball past the keeper’s right to make it 3-0 then, following some strong passing play in midfield, she was put through again to score her second.
Despite injury to Fran Broome resulting in a formation shuffle, MInehead continued to press forward and Perkins finished a strong solo run with a smart finish through the keeper’s legs to complete her hat-trick.
Then in the closing minutes, Lancaster completed hers too with a shot from long range which nestled in the net with the help of a small deflection.
It was a strong performance from back to front, but the player of the match went to Vicky Perkins.
Minehead Ladies I: Jan Weetch, Tracey Bailey, Kirstie Speed, Tara Jones, Rachael Speed, Fran Broome, Ella Beauchamp, Poppy Hurley, Denise Lancaster, Hannah Sparks, Vicky Perkins.
