MINEHEAD and West Somerset Golf Club Seniors have hosted their counterparts from over the border at Ilfracombe Golf Club.

With the course continuing to dry out and the rough providing a constant challenge, course knowledge proved to be a decisive advantage with Minehead running out 5-1 winners.

The only in-house competition that was played in the past week was on Friday where a good turnout challenged for the Stewards Trophy.

The foursomes format was played off white tees and consistent scoring was a problem reflecting the difficult conditions.

Nevertheless, two pairs managed to tame the course, both scoring 37 points and , after count backn the winners of the Stewards Trophy were Andy Coward and Tim Evans, ahead of second place Martin Hole and Pete Taylor. Third position, again on countback, went to Mike Kelly and David Jack with 34 points.
