MINEHEAD Barbarians 2nd XV will be back in action when they play at home to Wellington 2nd XV in the Somerset Vase today (Sat, 2.30).

Both teams will be playing their first matches in the new competition, the other teams in their group being Wyvern and Cheddar.

Minehead finished second from bottom in Counties Four Somerset South, obviously being mainly affected by injuries, while Wellington were seventh in Counties Three Somerset South, a division above the Seasiders.

"Players in the Colts and 2nd XV will be given priority for the Vase tie," said player-coach Jack Claydon. "We have some bright young players coming along, which is going to be good for next season," he said. "This will enable us to strengthen both squads.
