MINEHEAD will be looking to consolidate at the top of the Premier Division in the Somerset Cricket League when they play away to Winscombe this afternoon (Sat).

The seasiders, relegated from the West of England Premier League at the end of last summer and looking for a quick return, have opened up an 18-point lead over second-placed Long Sutton after beating Shapwick & Polden by seven wickets at home last weekend.

Minehead bowled out Shapwick for 176 on a good batting wicket with Bradon Taylor snapping up 5-22 before Archie Marsh (44 not out) and Gregg Howard (34 not out) steered the home side to victory with an unbeaten fourth-wicket stand.

Winscombe are lying sixth in the table, while Long Sutton are home to Taunton side Trull.

Minehead 2nd XI are home to South Petherton in Division Three and will be hoping for a return to winning form after their loss to the leaders Wiveliscombe away last weekend.

Wiveliscombe clash away to second-placed Yeovil with only three points separating the sides.

Minehead 3rd XI are away to Buckland St Mary and Bishopswood in the fourth division of the West Somerset League.

Kilve, who have a two-point lead over Morebath at the top of Division One of the West Somerset League, play away to Holford. Morebath entertain Over Stowey who have yet to get off the mark.

In the second division, leaders Ashbrittle will be looking to maintain their 100 per cent record when they play at Huish Champflower while second-placed Churchinford have a blank weekend.
