ETON Mes started last week’s runners off in good fashion with a close second at Newton Abbot on his seasonal reappearance.
He jumped well and narrowly lost out in a tight finish against a well handicapped rival. It was a good start to his season and he is likely to progress further as the ground softens.
Goodbye Earl finished third on his bumper debut at Ffos Las. He was a shade disappointing but he was quite green and got a bit stuck in the ground.
Belfrina didn’t handle the bends at Bath as well as we hoped and the trip was on the short side for her. The main thing is she has returned home safe and sound and we look forward to getting her out over hurdles next.
Neon Moon pinged the first fence at Ascot and then got hampered by a rival who had made a mistake. This seemed to knock his confidence jumping for a while and he didn’t have the best of runs round.
Masterius did okay to be fourth in his race and while Parchment travelled well for the majority of the race, he did finish a little weakly.
Keep Star unfortunately bled from the nostril early in his race and was pulled up at Worcester on Sunday.
All the horses have returned safe and sound, however, which is the main thing; we can see if anything comes to light in the coming days and keep moving forwards.
Our first runner of this week will be Navarau at Chepstow on Wednesday. He will be running in the maiden hurdle over two miles and Jack Tudor rides.
On Thursday, we have entries at Newbury, Plumpton, Newcastle and Chelmsford which includes Activist, Jaipaletemps, Gold in the Rivers and Majestic Wave, so keep checking the Daily News on the website for all the latest news on the stable runners.
On Friday, King Turgeon is likely to head to Aintree for the three-mile handicap chase which has been put onto replace the Badges Ales chase that was lost from Wincanton this weekend. At the weekend we have entries at Uttoxeter and Doncaster.
Jack had a morning riding out at Joe Tizzard’s last week. We also took a few horses galloping at Bath on Friday and he was in action there as well. He is packing in as much valuable experience as he can but back to reality and back to school this week!
As we know, the weather continues to be relatively dry and we desperately need more rain for jumps racing to get going properly, especially here in the West Country.
Two more of the horses that have joined us since we first wrote our Horses in Training for this season A-Z.
MAJESTIC WAVE - A recent recruit from an online sale he has been bought for my son Jack to have some fun on the all-weather over the winter. He is the winner of two races on the flat over 6 and 7 Furlongs, including on his penultimate start at Lingfield and we are hoping he can add to that tally.
VOITTON - A gorgeous three-year-old colt who has joined us from Germany. He has some very good form in the book, winning two of his seven starts to date and being placed on all his other starts, including in Group company.
Dave Pipe was talking to Richard Walsh.
