MINEHEAD and West Somerset men’s thirds visited leaders Sidmouth & Ottery Thirds at Ottery St Mary on Saturday, but were comfortably beaten 10-1 in Parrett Division Two of the West Hockey League.

The visitors were only able to field a bare 11 and did okay in the first half, finding themselves 3-1 down despite some notable saves by Adrian Bagg in goal and a solid effort from veteran Mark Collins in defence.

In the second half Minehead lacked fitness to take control in the midfield and forward areas, whilst leaving the defence too open at the back.

Consistent effort by Max Reed up front was left unsupported and the opportunities he generated were wasted by a lack of forwards to capitalise.

The hosts took advantage and scored a further seven goals to see the worst result of the season so far for the thirds who host a West Dorset development team at home tomorrow afternoon (2pm).
