MINEHEAD and West Somerset’s ladies side produced a fine comeback to see off Yeovil and Sherborne on Saturday in Women’s Sedgemoor Division One of the West Hockey League.

Minehead made a promising start, immediately invading Yeovil's D and held most of the possession in the first half, although they couldn’t find a breakthrough.

That was then punished twice before the break with both goals coming in quick succession.

After a constructive and motivating chat from the coaching staff at half-time, Minehead came back onto the pitch with plenty of hunger to get back into the match.

Only two minutes into the second half and they had halved the arrears as captain Amy Tisshaw made a baseline run and crossed to Hannah Sparks on the P spot who slotted the ball beautifully into the goal.

Minehead had finally got their heads into the game and a second goal shortly followed when Tisshaw drove in from the left and crossed the ball to Morgan Cooper who slotted it in behind the keeper.

Yeovil made a few threatening breaks but were quickly halted by Minehead’s solid defence, and the hosts took the lead when player-of-the-match Sparks picked up a rebound off the keeper’s pads and skilfully worked the ball around the same player for her second goal of the day.

The goals kept coming: Tisshaw made a run down the left and managed to hit the ball over the keeper’s outstretched leg to make it 4-2.

Yeovil continued to challenge Minehead until the end with both teams working tirelessly in the spring heat to win back possession and make advances, but as the end of the match approached, Molly Rucklidge connected with a rebound and made a cracking slap from the top of D which resulted in her first goal of the season.
