MINEHEAD Hockey Club Ladies hosted Exeter 4’s in their last league match before Christmas.
With both teams sitting on the same points and goal difference it promised to be a close game. Minehead started strongly, putting pressure on Exeter’s defence, keeping the visitors firmly pinned within their own half. A quick free-hit taken by Tisshaw saw her beat three defenders and find the backboard to open the scoring for the hosts.
A rare Exeter attack was quickly swept up by a strong Minehead defence who launched a counter attack down the right wing. Cooper chased a long loose ball, crossed it along the baseline to find Sparks in the D who cooly popped it round a falling keeper.
Another flurry of Minehead attacks rewarded the hosts with a short corner and the rebound was slotted past the keeper by Chilcott making the half-time score 3-0 to Minehead.
The second half continued in much the same fashion with Minehead continued to dominate the game Minehead piled on the pressure, Exeter couldn’t get out of their own half. The home team's pressure was rewarded with three more goals; a sweep over the keeper from Lancaster and Cape continuing her form with two of her own goals. The Coast Builders Player of the Match went to Molly Rucklidge.
