MINEHEAD & West Somerset Hockey Club Ladies hosted Exeter 4s for their first league fixture of the season - and the result was a 3-0 success for the home side.

The visitors made a bright start, applying pressure for the first fifteen minutes. Against the run of play, after a weaving run from Chilcott, Cooper slotted home Minehead’s first. Two minutes later, Cape fired a clinical shot from a penalty corner to make it 2-0 to the home side and settle everyone’s nerves.

Exeter applied pressure again at the start of the second half but thanks to Minehead’s relentless back four and a few great saves from Weetch, the visitors couldn’t put their chances away.

Shortly after half time, Tisshaw made a darting run to the baseline finding Sparks on the near post to tuck away Minehead’s third and final goal to finish with a 3-0 victory. Player of the Match went to Gemma Chilcott.

Minehead Men’s 3's played away against Sidmouth and Ottery 3's. There were a few new faces for the first match of the season, and after a battalion of unsuccessful short corners by Ottery, Ben Moody scored the first goal of the match.

Ottery were quick to return fire with a follow up goal from a short corner. Following some strong passes Max Reed scored the second goal of the match, which was equalled by shortly after by Ottery before the whistle blew on the first half.

In the second half Ottery were awarded a penalty flick courtesy of Richard Churchill; they flicked left and James Dove went right and took the lead.

A fierce game ensued as Minehead fought to get a third goal to equalise, which Max Reed achieved with just ten minutes to go leaving bothteams walking away with 3 goals each and a point to prove when they meet again later in the season!
