MINEHEAD Hockey Club Ladies were home to fifth-placed Tiverton White Eagles in a tightly contested league match which eventually ended in a 2–2 draw.
Minehead made a strong start to the game and took an early lead as Amy Tisshaw reacted quickly to a rebound off the Tiverton keeper and slotted the ball in to put the home side 1–0 up. But Tiverton showed plenty of spirit and responded with some determined attacking play, forcing Minehead’s defence into action.
However, the back line of the home side stood firm, and goalkeeper Jan produced several solid saves to keep the scoresheet clean heading into halftime as Minehead held on to their slended one goal lead.
Tiverton came out fighting after half-time and eventually found a way through their opponents’ defence to level the match at 1-1. Minehead rallied and soon won a short corner. In a well-crafted routine, Hannah slipped the ball to West Country Thatchers player of the match Kate Lancaster who scored to put Minehead back in front at 2-1.
Minehead's defence held off several short corners. Unfortunately the ball became trapped under Jan Weetch’s pads and Tiverton were awarded a penalty flick which they converted, bringing the score level at 2-2.
Minehead launched several promising attacks and had a few shots on goal but could not find the crucial finishing touch needed to break the deadlock as an exciting game drew to a close.
The match concluded in a 2–2 draw and a crucial point for the Ladies as they struggle to climb the table.
Minehead Ladies make the trip to bottom-place Yeovil on Saturday, November 22, in a fixture that they must win to help them climb a place or two and settle into this League.
