SOMERSET put paid to weeks of speculation regarding who would take over the captain’s mantle in 2024 when they announced today (Fri) that Lewis Gregory will be be leading the championship side this year.

The 31 year old has got a good track record as skipper, having successfully led the Cidermen in T20 cricket for several seasons with the crowning glory being to victory in the Vitality Blast T20 Final at Edgbaston in July 2023.

Gregory, who hails from Plymouth and made his senior debut against Pakistan in 2010, has represented England in both 50 and 20 over cricket and has also led Trent Rockets to victory in The 100.

The right handed batter and right arm seam bowler has played in 113 first class matches for Somerset in which he has scored 3704 runs at an average of 25.36 with a best of 137 and taken 339 wickets at 26.10 with a best of seven for 84.
