IT WAS a good afternoon for local trainers at Taunton Racecourse last Tuesday afternoon (20th) when they hosted the second of their three February meetings - in sunny weather for a change!

First in the frame was Bridgwater based Mitchell Hunt who won the opener with Chankaya who went off at 4-1.

In the second race Blackdown Hills trainer Stuart Kittow was unlucky to see Cornish Stone beaten to the line by half a length after going off at 15-2.

In the fourth race, which was the biggest race of the day, a Class 3 event with prize money totalling just shy of £14,000, Into the Park trained by Philip Hobbs and Johnson White won for the second time in a month under stable jockey Micheal Nolan, after going off the 6-5 favourite.

Third place in this race was claimed by Celtic Art trained by Brendan Hiull based Jeremy Scott at 22-1.

The final race of the day was won by the David Pipe trained Lady Balko who went off the 8-15 favourite to back up her win at Hereford on February 14.

Taunton host the William Hill Free Raceday on Monday, March 11, the day prior to the start of the Cheltenham Festival.
