IN UNRELENTING sunshine the Seniors at Minehead and West Somerset Golf Club braved the elements and played a midweek Texas Scramble competition.

Leading the way with nett 56 were the team of Graham Troman, John Burrow and Roger Read. In second position with nett 58 were Martin Loat, Rick Milliship and John Perkins.

Despite an excellent six birdies contributing to a gross 29 on the back nine, the team of Steve Gay, Karl Granger and Peter Chapple could only manage third on countback with nett 59.

The Seniors completed their golfing week when they played for the New Century Cup.

This Greensomes format proved to be an excellent competition with little difference between the majority of scores. Winners with a superb nett 64 were Mark Swallow and Karl Granger; the result decided on the back nine.

In second place with nett 65 were Dave Walmsley and Rick Milliship while third position was claimed by Doug Hayhoe and Roger Read with nett 68 on countback from Andy Giles and Roger Green.

Meanwhile, Minehead Golf Club have staged the Bickerton Bowl Scratch Open. Played over 36 holes, the course was in superb condition as the 24 players teed off.

The overall winner was home golfer Will Paton (-2) who returned a gross 67 and gross 66 to record an aggregate score of 133 to win by three shots. His combined rounds included 14 birdies.

Second place with an aggregate gross 136 went to Jamie Short (-4) (Oake Manor) while Andrew Isaacs (-5) (Long Sutton) was third on countback with an aggregate 137, ahead of Joshua Butterfield (-1) Weston-super-Mare).

The Bickerton Vase for the best nett score over 18 holes was won by Chris Webber (11) (Minehead) in decisive fashion with a nett 62. Keegan Jones (12) (Minehead) came second with nett 67 while Howard Tippetts (14) Minehead) claimed third with nett 68.
