MINEHEAD and West Somerset Golf Club Seniors started their week with a Texas Scramble competition resulting in nine teams finishing within four points of each other. It was equally difficult to separate the winners as four teams returned to the clubhouse with a nett 60 score.

On countback the winning team were Dave Oatridge, Noel Munson and Mike O’Keefe. Second place went to Bob Arthington, Mark Watson and Roger Green while Graham Troman, Roger Read and Tim Evans took third position ahead of Mike Kelly, Peter Allerton and David Atcherley-Symes who took fourth place.

The week continued with a Stableford competition. A strong wind proved challenging to many on the back nine, which in turn did little to improve members’ handicaps with nobody returning a par score. Congratulations go to Richard Baker who amassed 35 points to win the competition, followed by Malcolm Bruce (34 points) in second place and Graham Troman who was in third spot with 33 points.

Minehead Seniors hosted Long Sutton Golf Club in the Seniors Avalon League this week and managed a 4 – 1 victory.

The final Seniors’ competition of the week was the Captains Shield. Played against a strong breeze, the Bowmaker format nevertheless attracted a large entry.

There was a quite incredible round from the winning team of Steve Gay, Roger Read and Malcolm Bruce which saw them score a superb 84 points, which absolutely destroyed the field. Many congratulations go to them for a magnificent performance where the whole team contributed equally. The runners up with 70 points were Martin Hole, Fraser Lawrence and Dave Ball, while third place with a score of 69 points went to Dave Oatridge, Mike Kelly and Nigel Trevelyan.
