MINEHEAD and West Somerset Golf Club Seniors played a pairs scramble in unusually benign condition last week.
Several pairings took full advantage of the weather, notably Martin Hole and Mark Swallow who won the competition, recording a nett 65. In second place with nett 66 on countback were Dave Walmsley and Bob Arthington who also blended perfectly for their round, nudging John Perkins and Roger Green into third place.
The week ended with a qualifying Stableford competition which attracted a full entry in what were excellent weather conditions. However, the speed of the greens and pin positions combined to produce some challenging holes, providing a more than adequate excuse in the clubhouse as to why scores were generally well below expectations.
In the end it was Karl Granger who won the competition with 38 points, and many congratulations to him. In second place with 36 points was Sandy Lyons while Paul Saunders took third position on countback with 33 points.
