MINEHEAD and West Somerset Golf Club Seniors Texas Scramble, which was played in breezy but mainly dry conditions on Wednesday of last week, attracted a large field.

Starting early and benefiting from the conditions were Mark Ruttley, Sandy Lyons and Neville Parsons who all contributed to an excellent nett 61 which turned out to be the winning score.

Second place went to Roger Read, ‘Tiny’ Welford and Richard Burton, with nett 62.

Two days later saw the climax to the Trafalgar 4 Ball Better Ball competition played over six months with the best four accumulative scores deciding the winning pair. This means invariably that by the time the sixth round is played, the leading pair hold considerable advantage having already posted the score to beat.

Friday’s conditions proved the point where, despite everyone’s resolute efforts, a strong wind managed to withhold the challenge of the many and untrouble the leading pair in the clubhouse.

The final top four placings in the Trafalgar were in first place Andy Hodgson and Phil Saunders with 178, Willie Brown and Roger Green came second with 177, third place went to Peter Taylor and Nigel Trevelyan with 175, while Roger Reed and Edward Frewin were fourth with 172

Many congratulations to the winners, Andy Hodgson and Paul Saunders, followed by Willie Brown and Roger Green as the runners up at the end of a very close fought competition with only six points separating the top four placings.

The completion of the Trafalgar concludes the final Seniors cup/trophy competitions for the 2021/22 year and they now turn their attention to the year ahead.
