GOLFERS in Minehead have raised £2,500 to support the town’s middle school pupils and families who were affected by last year’s coach crash tragedy.

The fund-raising by Minehead and West Somerset Golf Club was in memory of 10-year-old pupil Oliver Price, who died in the accident in July of last year.

Golf club general manager Glenn Ross and chairman Martyn Westbury presented a cheque to school headteacher Laura Mackie and her deputy head Lynn Robson on Friday (January 23).

A golf club spokesperson said: “The fantastic amount was raised via an online auction of sporting memorabilia, days out, and clothing, along with generous donations from the club’s members.

“We remain committed to our local community and look forward to continuing to support good causes in 2026.”

Mrs Mackie said: “A heartfelt thank you to the golf club for their kindness and generosity.

“The money raised will be used to continue supporting the children who have been deeply affected by this tragic incident.

“This includes ensuring they have access to ongoing therapeutic and trauma‑informed support, additional wellbeing provision in school, and opportunities to rebuild relationships, connect with one another, and experience positive moments together.

“We are also committed to supporting our staff through this difficult time, creating space for healing, reflection, and community as we move forward together.”

The golf club’s auction is continuing, the details of which can be found on the Facebook page of the club, which is the oldest links course in Somerset, founded in 1882, or by contacting the club directly.

Last year, the Minehead club hosted the Somerset Men’s County Championships, the South West Seniors Championships, and the very first Somerset Hickory Championship.

This year, it is hosting the Somerset Men’s Seniors Championships and a new event, the South West Family 4 Ball.
