THE warmest day of the year greeted the Senior Section at Minehead and West Somerset Golf Club when they played for both the Barrett and Bryant Cups.
The format for both of the competitions was a Stableford and while the Bryant Cup was only open to those whose age was 80 or above they enjoyed the added benefit of a full handicap allowance.
A full entry participated with those having early start times probably benefitting the most from the cooling breeze that prevailed at that time.
The Barrett Cup turned out to be very keenly contested but at the end of the round the deserved winner in a very close result was Peter Young with an impressive 40 points, so many congratulations must go out to him.
In second place with 39 points was Edward Frewin while Malcolm Bruce took third position, just one point behind with 38.
In the Bryant Cup, it was Edward Frewin who took the honours with a superb score of 41 points, so close to a double victory. Edward had a five-point lead over Graham Stone who was second with 36, while Neville Parsons took third place on countback.
Meanwhile, Saturday was Club Captain's Day at Enmore Park, which saw 159 members participating in either the 18-hole or nine-hole competitions played in glorious weather.
In the 18-hole competition, there was fierce competition for the Captain's Putter, with two players returning 44 points each. However, after the countback, Stewart Hayter emerged as the winner, just ahead of second-placed Rodney Kirkpatrick.
Three players scored 41 points, so once again, the back nine came into play, following which it was Tim Bu’lock. Julian Palk was third, while Robin Francis came fourth. The first woman winner was Ruth Maclennan, who scored 40 points.
Heather Neale was the clear winner of the Captain's Day 9-Hole competition with an impressive 25 points, six ahead of second-placed Rachel Johnson with 19, while Paula Kilpatrick was third with 16.
Club Captain Craig Wright would like to thank everyone for participating in Saturday's competitions and is most grateful to the wonderful helpers, as well as the Pro Shop for collating all results.
Wednesday turned out to be another beautiful, sunny day with a slight cooling breeze as Enmore Seniors made the trip to North Devon for a match against their Saunton counterparts.
The course was in fantastic condition, and with wild orchids in abundance and the skylarks singing overhead. However, it was the home team who were triumphant, winning 4.5 to 1.5.
The winning Enmore pair were Les Dewdney with Paul Henson, with a half being won by Chris Willsteed and Adrian Winter. Jess Lawrence won nearest the pin. The day was capped off by a splendid roast beef dinner followed by apple crumble or creme brûlée.
Roger Hutchings, Brian Puddy and Leighton Townsend were the winners of the Seniors Team Challenge for the Bob Burton Trophy with a score of 84. Two teams returned with 82, but after counting back, it was Phil Hodge, Martyn Clapp, and Dave Winn who claimed second, just in front of Kevin Lewis, David Capron, and Terry Hogan, who were third.
Tuesday Night's Summer League played over nine holes, ended with three players tied on 21 points. Following a countback, Angus Jones was first, Neil Wicks was second, and Tony Brooks was third.
