PORLOCK, on the road for the first time in 2026, took all three points in a 4-2 away win over Wyvern in the Premier Division of the Centregreat Taunton & District Saturday Football League.

Having faced Wyvern twice already this season and coming out with two wins, they knew how their counterparts would play.

Wyvern started the better of the two sides having an earlier chance through their striker who was matched by goalkeeper Darren Sherring to make sure the visitors didn’t take an early lead.

With Porlock slowly growing into it they started to get the ball down and play some football on a worse for wear pitch. However it was Wyvern who struck first with their striker beating centre back Harry Kivell in the air and looping his headed attempt to the back post and unfortunately keeper Sherring couldn’t get a fingertip to it.

This spurred Porlock on and a wonderful through ball from Ollie Morris released Finley Priddle who found the back of the net to make the game an all even affair after the first 10 minutes.

Moments later Morris, who yet again had the key to unlocking the Wyvern back line, threaded another ball through to Caleb Laney who squared the ball to Priddle who tapped it in to an open net to double his and Porlock’s account for the afternoon.

Not long after this a Wyvern striker was sent for an early shower as he decided to throw a punch at Porlock’s right back. As tempers flared the referee defused the situation, sent the Wyvern player off and brandished two yellow cards to Porlock players for their involvement in the altercation.

Following a lengthy stoppage Porlock re-grouped and got back to the task in hand against the ten men of Wyvern. A corner delivered by Morris was spilled by the Wyvern goalkeeper and Adam Langdon fired it home to put Porlock 3-1 up at the break.

The second half started and Wyvern looked up for a battle. However with the man advantage Porlock were just passing the ball around them, until a slip from centre back Chris James saw their winger gather the ball and put them back in to contention, making the game 3-2 with 30 minutes to go,

Fresh legs were brought on to help with finishing the game off, and that’s just what happened.

There was some lovely link up play from the substitutes Joe Fitzsimmons and Ryan Parsons who broke down the Wyvern defence but they just got back to clear the ball to centre back James at about 25 yards from goal who took a touch and rifled the ball into the top corner to settle the Porlock nerves and nullify any chance of a Wyvern fightback.

The time ticked down and Porlock controlled the game against their counterparts, to wrap up a successful trip to Taunton and gain a valuable three points on the road to keep themselves very much in the title race.

Next up for Porlock in the league is a match away against Staplegrove on Saturday, January 17.

Starting line up: Darren Sherring, Mike Mullen, Chris James, Harry Kivell, Declan Paterson, Cody Truscott, Ollie Morris, Adam Langdon, Braden Taylor, Caleb Laney and Finley Priddle. Subs (both used): Ryan Parsons and Joe Fitzsimmons.
