MINEHEAD Cycling Club members raced the final cyclocross of the season on Sunday at Arlington Court.
First up was Tim Rook (V50 15th). After a cautious start on the slippery course he steadily picked off slower riders to move up in a very competitive class. A frantic sprint for the line wasn’t quite enough to catch 14th place.
David Bray (V60 4th) had a race long battle with Matthew Waddams (V60 3rd). On lap three, as they scrapped, Matthew fell as the tight grassy corners polished up, David took advantage to open a 20 second gap. But Matthew wasn’t finished; he rapidly uprighted himself and by lap five was back on David’s wheel, turning the screw, he accelerated to take 30 seconds out of David by the finish.
This result confirmed David’s 3rd in the season overall rankings, an excellent achievement.
Susannah Rook (J 1st) rode safely to take the class win, unchallenged.
