A TOTAL of 125 golfers played a Stableford Competition for the Andrew Gadd Challenge Cup at Oake Manor Golf Club on Saturday.

The competition was played along with a raffle and raised £1850 for Cancer Research UK. Andrew was a member of Oake Manor Golf Club but unfortunately died from cancer. His widow Ros Wills has set herself a challenge to raise £60,000 in her 60th year for Cancer Research UK

Ros gave a huge thank you to all the golfers who took part in the competition and all those who bought raffle tickets and the generous sponsors who provided the prizes, in particular to the Oake Manor Pro Shop team and to Colin Graves and Stonegallows Clinic sStaff.

The raffle was drawn by Vicki, the area representative for Cancer Research UK. Among the many prizes were six lucky people who won free rounds of golf at other Somerset golf clubs and also tickets to an Exeter Chiefs rugby match.

Andy Cooper won the Cup scoring 41 points, Oliver Nott came second with 40 points while Mark Woolliscroft was third with 39 points. Nearest the pin on the 10th hole was David Wheeler and Jason Brock was nearest the pin on the 16th hole; each received a bottle gin. During the competition Ashley Gaines had a hole in one on the 192 yard 14th hole.

The first three players in the Sunday Stableford Competition all scored 37 points but on count back Daniel Bidgway was first, Eamon Leigh was second and Liam Willey came third.

Suzanne Ward won the Ladies Sunday Stableford Competition, scoring 35 points, Ladies Club Champion Jane Clist came second with 34 points while Karen Grabham was third with 33 points.
