IT HAS been quite a week for Minehead Golf Club’s Glyn Harris who, playing in the Freddie Burton Bowmaker, took an eight iron at the par 3 10th and with one bounce the ball settled in the cup for a hole in one.
This is something of a habit for Glyn, thus recording his ninth hole in one. Nevertheless, it is still some achievement and many congratulations to him.
Buoyed with that success Glyn entered the Millennium on Sunday and in difficult windy conditions, he won on countback with a nett 74, just ahead of Mark Harris. Peter Manley took third place on countback with 75 ahead of Dave Hillier and Neil Megarry.
Minehead Seniors played the third round of the Marshall Cup last week, when new member Les Oakley won on count back with 72, just ahead of Roger Read, while Tony Connolly was third on 73.
Wednesday saw the return friendly against Burnham & Berrow GC where the conditions were always going to be tough and favour the home side. This indeed proved to be the case where Minehead ran out 6-0 winners and thereby winning the aggregate two leg scores by 6.5/5.5.
To round off an excellent week the Seniors took part in Ed’s Birthday Bash, an annual event celebrating the esteemed and sartorially elegant of senior Edward Frewin.
A full entry took part in near perfect conditions and it was Mike O’Keefe who blitzed the course to win with 44 points. Paul Saunders was second with 40 points.
The first prize was a wonderful wildlife print painted by Edward’s late wife; a renowned artist that was presented by his grandchildren Lola and Ivy.
There was no entry fee, but with participants donated to Edward’s charity, the Beacon Centre in Taunton, amounting to a magnificent £450.
