WATCHET Town’s away game against Congresbury in the Premier Division of the Uhlsport Somerset County Football League tomorrow (Sat, Aug 9) has been called off because of the state of the pitch.

“The pitch has cracks because of the dry weather,” said the Watchet club’s spokesman Nick Sully. “We’re not surprised because Congresbury’s match last weekend was called off for the same reason.”

“It’s ironic that the league started early to avoid a pile-up of fixtures later in the season due to postponements because of the poor state of pitches.”
