FOR the first time this season Watchet Town could feel aggrieved at having nothing to show for their efforts when they went down by the only goal of the game away to fellow strugglers Worle in the Premier Division of the Uhlsport Somerset County Football League.

In contrast to their hosts having a full squad which was bolstered by a couple of Western League players as Menfip Broadwalk were without a fixture, the Red & Blacks travelled with just the one sub, who was soon called into action.

The visitors made a bright start with Brandon Walsh’s welcome return in midfield giving them a stronger presence especially in the air. His header from a free kick passed across the face of the goal with Billy Jones and Adam Jefferies just unable to apply the finishing touch.

Alfie Cox had threatened with his pace before dropping back to left back when Lewis Rogers had to retire through injury. Worle missed an open goal and a free header was directed wide before a drive from Walsh went narrowly over and Ben Robinson’s free kick was safely held. Down broke the deadlock for Worle with a shot into the roof of the net with the visitors appealing in vain for an offside flag.

Watchet continued to compete after the break as Jack Harding had few shots to deal with and they stayed well in the game throughout. Jones almost capitalised on a clever flick from Todd Willis. Harding did well to turn a deflected cross over the bar and a couple of home headers were off-target. Time eventually ran out on a gallant Watchet team showing but they remain rooted at the bottom of the table. Watchet Town: Jack Harding, Benji Gant, Charley Clausen, Eben Harding, Nigel Bremne,r Lewis Rogers, Ben Robinson, Brandon Walsh, Adam Jefferies, Billy Jones, Alfie Cox. Sub: Todd Willis.
