WATCHET Town picked up their first point of the season when they drew 1-1 with a youthful Clutton side in Division one of the Uhlsport Somerset County Football League at the Memorial Ground last Saturday.

Both teams showed many changes from their encounter on the opening day of the campaign which Clutton won 4-1. The visitors started strongly before Watchet came right back into it in an even first half and after some promising moves they took the lead when Billy Jones burst free through the middle to shoot against the keeper with the ball then looping upwards to spin over the goalline as a defender had the last touch.

From a clear opening Clutton's lively winger lobbed against an upright and Watchet were indebted to some last ditch blocks from central defenders Callum Knight and Eben Harding to keep them in front at the interval.

After Clutton again began well Watchet had chances to increase their lead with Rob Spicer-Wedlake playing a neat one-two on the edge of the box only to finish tamely and an unmarked Jones met a raking free kick from Knight with a firm header off-target.

The visitors had troubled Watchet throughout with some dangerous corners and they drew level with a header from point blank range at the far post.

Regan Gallagher made a good save and Clutton then thought they had gone in front with another far post finish only to be denied by an offside flag before it was the home side's turn to almost grab a winner when Lewis Clavey rose highest in a crowded goalmouth but his header clipped the top of the bar and went over.
