PORLOCK Reserves hosted North Petherton Reserves in Division Two of the Centregate Taunton & District Saturday Football League where, despite a fighting performance at the end of a tough afternoon, it was the visitors who claimed the points, winning 6-3.

The first half was a frustrating one for Porlock who started brightly and were dominating large spells of the game, moving the ball well and creating pressure. Unfortunately, despite having the better of the play, the home side could not turn their chances into goals.

At the opposite end of the field North Petherton were clinical when their opportunities came, making the most of their chances to take a 2-0 lead into half-time.

After the break Porlock came out looking to get themselves back into the game, but despite their resolve unfortunately Petherton struck twice early on to put themselves in a commanding position at 4-0.

Porlock did not give up, and started to fight their way back into the game. Lennon Sowden did brilliantly to set up Caleb Laney, who finished his chance to make it 4-1.

Not long after, Lennon Sowden stepped up and produced a fantastic free kick to bring the score back to 4-2 and give Porlock some hope.

Petherton managed to extend their lead to 6-2, but there was still time for one more moment of quality from Porlock, as Dec Paterson unleashed a wonderful strike from outside the 18-yard box to make it 6-3.

Unfortunately, it was not to be Porlock’s day, but despite this defeat there is plenty to take away from this game as they look to bounce back to winning ways.

Porlock Reserves will be back in action on Saturday, November 7, when they have a derby game away to Minehead Colts (at Dunster Playing Field). Both teams have yet to find their best form so it should be a good game.
