WATCHET Town were unable to stop the rot last Saturday when they conceded four second half goals at home to Keynsham-based Fry Club in the Premier Division of the Uhlsport Somerset County Football League.

After competing well in a goalless first half Watchet lost some discipline and concentration when things started to go against them.

With playing resources again stretched as the club strove to put out two sides despite numerous unavailabilities the Red & Blacks competed well in a hard-working showing in the opening half without posing much of an attacking threat.

Keeper Jack Harding again impressed as those in front of him worked hard to deny Frys clearcut openings and the nearest they came to scoring was when they hit the post from a free kick which was awarded after Charley Clausen had cleanly won the ball on the edge of his box.

Following the resumption Watchet had a golden opportunity to go ahead when Tom Sparks put Billy Jones through, but the striker scuffed his shot wide of the target.

Minutes later the visitors made the most of their escape when the referee deemed a challenge on Aiden Buller to be a fair one, allowing an ensuing cross to catch Watchet napping as a free header found the bottom corner at the far post.

Almost immediately the lead was doubled with a clever near post flick from ex Minehead and Watchet player Callum Barnfield's free kick. A flying tip over from Harding preceded two more assured finishes late in the game which gave Frys a rather flattering winning margin and in between salt was added to Watchet's wounds when Connor Jeromson was dismissed after being shown a second yellow card.
