WATCHET Town and Minehead kick off the new season with matches in the first division of the Uhlsport Somerset County Football League on Saturday, August 8.

Watchet, relegated last season after finishing bottom of the Premier Division, play away to Clutton who finished 13th last winter - only one place above the drop zone.

Nick Sully, who will again be managing the side, said: "We're expecting a tough game. Unfortunately, we face the same old problems at this time of the year with players being unavailable through holidays and work commitments.

"It is normally very wet at Clutton but I don't expect this to be the case on Saturday."

Watchet have played only one pre-season game - away to Dunwear where they drew 3-3. Sully added: "It was a good run-out for the lads."

Meanwhile, Minehead start the season with two home matches in the next five days. They play promoted Isle of Wedmore on Saturday and Burnham United next Wednesday.

Manager Lee Todd has a big squad to choose from and does not plan to name his side for the first match until late in the week.

He has signed several new players with goalkeeper Carl Page being one of those who will definitely be playing on Saturday.

"Obviously we want to get off to the best possible start," said Todd who begins his first full season in charge.

Isle of Wedmore finished third in the second division last season, behind winners Paulton Rovers Sports and runners-up St George Easton in Gordano.

Saturday's fixtures, Division One: Clutton v Watchet Town, Glastonbury v Burnham United, Minehead v Isle of Wedmore, Nailsea United v Peasedown Miners Welfare, Westfield v St George Easton in Gordano, Winscombe v Ashcott.

Tuesday: Clutton v Paulton Rovers Sports, Peasedown Miners Welfare v Imperial, Winscombe v Westfield, Worle v Glastonbury, Wrington Redhill v Nailsea United Reserves.

Wednesday: Minehead v Burnham United.
