PORLOCK Ladies put up a spirited fight before losing 3-1 at home to Staplegrove in Division Two of the Somerset Women’s Football League.

Porlock Ladies kicked off the first half with intensity and determination, immediately putting pressure on Staplegrove and keeping possession. Their efforts paid off within the first four minutes as Aimee slotted home a fantastic goal, capitalising on some brilliant play.

However, Staplegrove responded quickly, pushing hard down the left flank and looking to play balls over the top, but Porlock’s defence held strong. Lauren stood out at the back with some crucial tackles and defensive runs, keeping Staplegrove at bay and giving Porlock opportunities to break forward.

Kez, playing her final game for Porlock, was relentless in attack, putting in multiple attempts and pressing high up the pitch. Porlock clearly wanted the win, but around the 30-minute mark, Staplegrove equalised with a well-placed goal over the top. Soon after, a deflected shot found its way into the Porlock net, giving Staplegrove a 2-1 lead going into half-time.

The second half saw some tactical changes from Porlock, particularly in the midfield and defensive lines, aiming to contain Staplegrove’s pace on the wings. Porlock remained in control and kept Staplegrove in their own half for the majority of the second half. However, an injury forced a goalkeeper substitution around the 70th minute. In true team spirit, manager Christina stepped in to cover, showcasing her sportsmanship and commitment.

Porlock continued to press, with Julie delivering three excellent balls in from the left and Kez keeping up her attacking efforts on the right. Chloe making crucial runs and getting on the end of everything she could.

However, despite all their efforts, Porlock fell further behind as the Taunton side went into a 3-1 lead. Despite their pressure and several scoring chances Porlock could not find the back of the net again.
