MINEHEAD Under 12s are through to the final of the Taunton Youth Football League’s Chairman’s Cup after staging a remarkable fightback against Ashcott.

Ashcott began looking the far stronger side and within the first 15 minutes had taken a 3-0 lead, knocking Minehead's confidence.

If it hadn’t been for some excellent goalkeeping from Jack Lomax it could have been more. Then a cruel deflected corner made it 4-0.

However, an intelligent through ball from Olly Hill to Seb Matcham saw his smart finish fly into the top corner and pull one back for Minehead.

Soon after Olly Hill beat two players and fired a shot in the bottom left of goal, and just before the break a clever run and cross from Frankie Cox gave Charlie Ely an opportunity which he fired home to make it 3-4 at half time.

The second half started well with a great one two between Olly Hill and Barney Langdon that gave Olly his second in the match to level the score.

At this point the momentum had shifted and Minehead were increasing their control over the game. However after 10 minutes of the second half Ashcott scored a break away goal to regain the lead.

Seb Matcham then grabbed his second goal with a smart turn and finish, bringing the game to 5-5. From this point Minehead's dominance enabled the midfield duo of Barney Langdon and Olly Hill to take control and feed Frankie Cox and Jake Ely down both wings. Man of the Match Arthur Hill took his chance well with 15 minutes to go to make it 6-5 to Minehead.

Minehead continued to grow leading to numerous further chances, one of which Olly took while Seb took the other, both completing their hat tricks and giving their side an 8-5 victory and a place in the final against Bishops Lydeard.
