MINEHEAD U12 Blues gained a thrilling 1-0 away win over Berrow Villians in the first round of the Somerset FA County Knock Out Cup.

In the early minutes Minehead midfielder Leon had a shot on goal which was saved by the Berrow keeper, and then shortly after midfielder Finley hit the right goal post. This put Berrow on the back foot and moments later Finley struck again, this time prising open the Berrow defence and bringing the ball fully under control before calmly slotting it past the keeper for 1-0.

Berrow then countered and controlled the play for a period, with an excellent save by Minehead keeper Lou. This set the standard for much of the rest of the match; tiring high tempo football moving quickly from one end of the pitch to the other, from one side of the pitch to the other, with fairly equal opportunities for both teams.

In the latter part of the first half Berrow had three opportunities; one going over the bar and two being saved by Lou.

At the other end Minehead also had three chances; a shot by midfielder George, another by forward Oaklen, and another shot by midfielder Finley from a George corner, but all were saved by the Berrow keeper.

Going into the second half , Minehead were expecting an onslaught from Berrow and they certainly didn’t disappoint. Berrow threw everything they had at the Blues, tallying up two good shots which went just wide of the goal, three free kicks: two just over the bar and one being saved by the Minehead keeper, and more corners on top of this.

Despite this onslaught Berrow just couldn’t break the Minehead defence, in particular the back four of Riley, Buddy, Ben and Reuben.
