MINEHEAD are up to joint third in the Under 12 section of the Somerset Girls Football League after beating Huish Tigers 8-1 at home in their latest match.

Straight from kick-off, the script was playing out as expected. The visitors were displaying an early threat with their pacey attackers. Maja, though, quickly stamped her authority on proceedings alongside Dotty and Tilly at the back.

Minehead, though, were also showing their quality. Lucy drove the team forward with her powerful runs, along with the pacey Evie and Darcy, who were on theme on Halloween, terrorising the Huish backline with both unfortunate not to score on occasions.

As the minutes ticked by, there was a growing sense that Minehead had to take a chance. Then, as the half-time whistle neared, Lucy fired home to break the deadlock, giving The Blues a deserved half-time lead.

The half-time team talk focused on the positives and building on them into the second half and right from the very first whistle, everything was clicking.

At times, Lucy, Sophie, and Poppy were popping the ball around for fun. Chance after chance was now coming Minehead’s way with a flurry of quick-fire goals.

Getting their names on the scoresheet were skipper Poppy from close range, Sophie with an emphatic brace, with one crashing sweetly against the crossbar before nestling into the net, and Lucy displayed all her qualities to add four to her tally! Five on the day for the striker who was unplayable at times!

Despite Minehead’s dominance, Huish did carve out chances, scoring one, which could have been more but for goalkeeper Mia, who had her best game in a Minehead shirt.

As the final whistle sounded, The Blues were elated with their efforts! This was an emphatic victory and statement to themselves that they are capable of brilliant things now and into the future!
