MINEHEAD Youth Falcons are through to the final of the Taunton & District Youth Football League’s Under 13 KO Cup - and are on course to complete a league and cup double.

Falcons took on a strong Isle of Wedmore team in the semi finals of the cup in midweek. It was their first opportunity to play a match on the main Minehead AFC pitch under floodlights, therefore making the game a mixture of excitement and nervousness for the players all in one.

This was clear to see as the visitors held their own and took the lead, putting them 1-0 up against the home outfit. Howeve, the Falcons settled and started to play some lovely flowing football from Jack Lomax in goal through to the midfield which provided the strikers RJ Manu and Seb Matcham with chances to grab the equalizer.

Minehead gained a real foothold in the game and their efforts were rewarded through a clear-cut penalty, in which Olly Hill dispatched with clear accuracy to bring the scores back to 1-1.

This brought the confidence back back to the seasiders and they eventually began to settle, making the second half a completely different game.

The back four of George Gardner, Jake Ely, Luke Bennett and Oscar Cox made sure the visitors didn't get much of the ball with a solid performance, some great tackles and were well organised to cover Wedmore's attempted through balls.

Barney Langdon and Olly Hill put in a commanding performance in the middle of the park, linking well with wingers Roman Davis, Charlie Ely and Frankie Cox, who all put some enticing dangerous crosses in, and some lovely through balls comminating in Wedmore's keeper having to make a string of saves.

Minehead finally finally gotr reward with Olly Hill grabbing his second, and shortly after his hatrick with a couple of cracking top corner finishes giving the home side a 3-1 lead.

From then on there was only going to be one team in it - and that was the Falcons. Some neat footwork from Arthur hill enabled the ball to be put through to Oakley Murch who in turn cleverly lobbed the keeper to make it 4-1.

Minehead continued to press with their tails up, leading to RJ Manu dancing through a couple of the Wedmore defenders and successfully dispatching a smart finish, so extending the lead to 5-1.

Then just before the end of the game another well taken goal was snapped up by player of match Olly Hill, taking his tally to four on a night when Falcons truely showed their class against good opposition. With the final score being 6-1 to Minehead it has now taken Minehead Falcons U13's through to the League Cup Final against Ashcott which will be staged on Taunton Town's ground on Sunday, the 26th April.

Meanwhile, Falcons are chasing a league a cup double because they have an eight-point lead at the top of Division One in the Under 13 section.

They will be back in league action on Saturday, April 11, when they play at home to Ashcott, who are lying sixth in the table, in a cup final rehearsal.

Bridgwater Victoria Park Rangers, who are lying second in the table, also play on Saturday (April 11) when they entertain Ruishton Rovers who are lying third.
