MINEHEAD Blues gained a fine 2-1 away win over Wellington Town in Division Two of the Under 12 section in the Taunton & District Youth Football League.

Minehead defender Reuben was quick to make his mark, working tirelessly to contain Wellington’s rapid right forward and preventing any clear breakthroughs. In midfield, Leon, Rory and George combined well, moving the ball confidently and setting the tone for Minehead’s attacking play.

The breakthrough came in the 13th minute when Rory brought the ball under control before striking it cleanly to give Minehead a 1–0 lead. Minehead continued to press, with Leon firing just wide and Finley narrowly missing a chance to connect.

Wellington pushed forward late in the half and Minehead keeper Lou made an important save from a dangerous through ball. The Blues went into the break with a 1–0 advantage.

Minehead doubled their lead early in the second half. A superb overhead clearance from Reuben dropped perfectly behind the Wellington defensive line, allowing Finley to run through and finish confidently.

Wellington responded almost immediately, capitalising on a moment of disruption following a heavy fall by Minehead defender Buddy. With play continuing, a brief mix-up in the box allowed Wellington to volley home and reduce the deficit to 2–1.

Despite the setback, Minehead showed great resilience. George created further opportunities with some excellent footwork on the wing, setting up chances for both Leon and Finley, although neither could add to the scoreline.

At the back, Minehead remained solid, working hard to see out the game and secure the win. Defender Ben battled through despite not being fully fit and played the entire match with the squad down to the bare nine players. His partnership with Reuben in defence was outstanding. Credit also to Oaklen, who dropped back from his usual forward role into a deeper defensive midfield sweeper position.
