MINEHEAD will be looking to end their four-week enforced break from football when they play away to Sporting Weston in the first division of the Uhlsport Somerset County League on Saturday, January 17.

Minehead have not played since they lost 2-0 at home to Imperial in a league game just before Christmas.

“We’ve not done a lot since then,” said Minehead boss Lee Todd. “Some of the lads played for Minehead Reserves and Colts last weekend in a bid to keep match-fit, while we’ve also done a bit of training.

“Being out of the game for so long, I don’t know what to expect against Sporting Weston. All I know is that they are a good side and we will have to play well. We were disappointing against Imperial. We started well enough and I thought we were going to win the game.

“But our performance levels dropped off and we never really looked like winning the game.”

Sporting Weston are lying seventh in the table, only one place above Minehead, but they have played four fewer games than the seasiders.

Fixtures: Bishops Sutton v Burnham United, Clutton v Peasedown Miners Welfare, Glastonbury v Portishead Town Reserves, Sporting Weston v Minehead, Westfield v Ashcott, Keynsham Town Reserves v Wrington Redhill, Winscombe v Combe St Nicholas.

Meanwhile Watchet Town, who suffered a disappointing 4-0 away defeat against fellow strugglers Stockwood Wanderers in the Premier Division last weekend, are away to eighth-placed Clevedon United.

Watchet are bottom of the table, having won only one match this season and are pointless following the deduction of three points earlier this season for not fulfilling three matches.
