A DEFLECTED shot late on consigned Watchet to 3-2 home defeat after they had twice led Yatton & Cleeve United in the Premier Division of the Uhlsport Somerset County League.
The visitors held the upper hand in the opening exchanges and an early chance was diverted over the bar from close range. Watchet then had a good opportunity when Billy Jones teed up Alfie Cox in front of goal, but he sliced his shot wide.
The Red & Blacks were rewarded, however, after Josh Aspey's corner was sent back out to him for his second cross to cause havoc in the goalmouth where a game of pinball ensued with Watchet having at least four point blank range attempts blocked before the ball ran loose for Eben Harding to drill home.
Their advantage was shortlived as Yatton drew level before halftime when a cross came in from the left and Croft arrived to sidefoot home at the far post.
Early in the second-half Cox had to be stretchered off with a bad knee injury, but Watchet rallied to move ahead again midway through when Connor Jeromson helped the ball on through the middle and with the keeper making a hash of his clearance Jones capitalized to steer into an empty net from 25 yards.
Again the response was instant as Yatton made the most of an advantage played following a foul on Charley Clausen to make it 2-2 with a textbook header. Symptomatic of Watchet's fortunes so far it was Yatton who notched a late winner with a deflected effort which sparked vociferous visiting celebrations.
