Minehead Reserves 1
Redgate 2
Minehead Reserves hosted high flying Redgate last Saturday at home and yet again came away losing by the odd goal.
Redgate started the brighter of the two sides and had Minehead under early pressure, resulting in two good chances being saved well by keeper Jack Harding who was unusually looking exposed by a normally reliable defensive unit.
After 15 minutes one of these saw Redgate go one up from a headed corner forcing the early introduction of Jacob Worrall at the expense of the injured Steve Lynch.
This kick started the home team and Minehead got into the game with strikers Olly Prescott and Toby Waghorn soon on the ball.
The best chance for Minehead was a great ball from Sam Heath which found Waghorn ithrough on goal but was brought down just outside the penalty area.
The resulting free kick saw Prescott just miss with his shot over the bar.
With several key players missing for Minehead especially in midfield it didnt stop Dan Vickers, Sam Heath, Liam Thorne and Sam Harley having good spells on the ball.
Redgate looked for a second quickly but Minehead defence of Charlie Disney, Lowell Binnie, Worrall and Luke Heath did their very best to deny them and they seemed to have it under control until another goal from a corner was headed in to double the lead of Redgate.
In the second half, it was much better from Minehead and for long spells they were the better side with Oli Jones and Waghorn being a threat upfront and chances fell to Minehead. However before long Jones had to go off with an injury.
The experienced Andy Hall brought some strength to the forward unit. Redgate were reduced to ten men midway through the second half when the referee showed a red card when one of their players dived in recklessly on Heath.
Minehead were now knocking constantly at the door of Redgate and soon got their reward when Worrall saw a good shot fly into the net giving Minehead hope.
Redgate now were under constant pressure and they put everyone behind the ball to protect their lead.
With a few minutes to go Redgate were reduced to nine men when the referee sent off another Redgate player, this time for a second bookable offence.
However Redgate held in to complete the double.
Man of the match went to Liam Thorne.
