MINEHEAD Reserves travelled to Taunton to play their ‘home’ game against North Curry on a 3G pitch because of ongoing pitch issues as a result of the appalling weather and gained a 1-1 draw.

The first twenty minutes were very even with a decent young Curry side proving a handful going forward. Minehead, however, with the strength of the Heath brothers Josh and Sam and the Vickers brothers Dan and Rob gradually gained control of the midfield and despite going close through Rob who found the side netting it was Curry who took the lead after 30 minutes when a fine cross from the right was met by the Curry striker who gave young Khalib Scheepers in the Minehead goal no chance with a fine header.

Riley Pope and Scott Kivell menaced the Curry defence but there weren’t many clear chances until 40 minutes when a fine low shot from Sam Heath equalised for the Blues to bring things level at half time.

The Minehead defence of Oli Reaney, Andy Gubb, Harvey Lovell and Myles Campbell-Farmer were solid but rotation saw Lyam Scheepers replace Reaney and JJ Knight taking over from Lovell. The changes were seamless as was Sam Jackson for Sam Heath. Haiden Griffiths for Kivell was the next change and it was soon that his pace took him away from the Curry defence but his one on one saw his shot go agonisingly wide.

Rob Vickers hit a 30 yard free kick towards the bottom corner of the net but an excellent save by the keeper kept Minehead at bay. Khalib Scheepers pulled off several excellent saves in debut and deserved the man of the match award and despite Curry hitting the bar with five minutes to go it was Minehead who came away more disappointed with the point. Man of the match:- Khalib Scheepers.
