DULVERTON Town hosted Staplegrove Colts in Division Two of the Taunton Saturday League and won 7-2 despite a heavy downpour just before kick off making conditions far from ideal.

The visitors took an early lead but soon after James Kelland levelled up for Town. However Colts soon regained with another cracker from outside the box putting them 2-1 up.

With the pitch cutting up after only 30 minutes, the hosts tried to keep the ball out wide in the drier areas and gained a free kick out on the right. Ben Mear swung a ball high in to the box and the Colts keeper misjudged the flight and it went straight in to the back of the net to level the scores.

Then great link up play between Sunny Webber and Kelland put the latter clean through and he smartly prodded the ball past the keeper to put Town 3-2 up at the break.

Town’s midfield trio of McDonald, Mear and Carey were up against four opposition players in the middle but they were standing firm and holding their own. When they did win the ball back, Town’s front three of Kelland, Chamberlain and Webber were one on one at the back and they tore Colts apart time after time.

Kelland scored two quick fire goals to put Town 5-2 up early on, while at the other end the home back four of Dave Kelland, Wilson, Burke and Kelly were outstanding.

Sunny Webber grabbed a goal and Ben Mear got his second of the game with a smart finish from outside the box.

Town had won again, a cracking win at home to put them joint top of the table.

They go again on Saturday, December 5, away to local rivals Watchet Town Reserves 2pm kick off.
