MINEHEAD Under 16s swamped Tone Youth Wasps 10-1 under the Irnham Road lights to reach the semi-finals of the league cup last Wednesday.

They were missing keeper Brad Davey and Eliot Allen through injury and couldn’t have made a worse start when over-confidence saw them go behind in the first minute, a mistake by the normally reliable Toby Morris resulting in a long shot going over stand-in keeper Elliott Binding.

That shook Minehead into action and they were ahead within four minutes after goals from Sam Bruford, from a Robbie Davies pass, and then Davies himself with a volley after being set up by Jake Ruston.

It was all Minehead now, playing some glorious football without finding the required finish.

Davies saw shots go over or saved and Harry David ran through to see his effort come back off the upright.

Beau Clancy-Winter, looking comfortable in possession, supplied Davies again but his shot went into the side netting, then Morris and Clancy-Winter combined well for Robert Vickers to shoot just over.

Ruston, looking sharp on the right, set up more chances with David, Clancy-Winter and Callum Barnfield all going close, then in the 19th minute it looked as if Minehead had scored but Bruford’s good finish was ruled offside.

With half-time approaching, the enterprising Jack Stove finally made it 3-1 with a good finish, then Davies scored his second to give Minehead a comfortable half-time lead.

The second half saw regular substitutions for the home team as they capitalised on their superiority with a steady flow of goals.

First was Stove with a glorious volley then Bruford notched his second, and midway through the half Bruford completed his third hat-trick of the season.

Three minutes later Robert Vickers put Davies in and he calmly chipped the keeper for his third of the day.

Vickers then scored with a good finish from the edge of the box to make it 9-1 and Harry David completed the rout a minute before the end.

Minehead now look forward to their semi-final away to Bishops Lydeard.

Their next league match is away to league leaders Willand next Sunday .

Man of the match was Beau Clancy-Winter and runner-up Harry Kivell.
