MINEHEAD Barbarians continued their good form with a 34-3 victory against visitors Old Bristolians on Saturday.
On an overcast day, with dry pitches and little wind it was again perfect conditions to play running rugby.
Minehead continued their initial aggressive start at the beginning of matches and took the ball directly to the game line very early on.
Dave Swann, who was prominent all afternoon, along with Ryan Lewis and Joe Barrett showed great strength and made valuable yards every time they carried.
Old Bristolians did well to contain the Minehead side for as long as they did, but after the first 15 minutes Josh Parker worked the blind side finding Swann who made a cute pass to Ryan Lewis for him to power over and get Minehead on the scoreboard.
Ninnis made a valiant effort with the kick from out wide but the ball steered just past the upright.
The visitors came back strongly but Minehead defended well with Greg Richards and Ross Bradley making noticeable hits.
A penalty was eventually awarded to Old Bristolians and they took the three points in front of the posts to get themselves into the game.
Little did they know that it would be the first and last chance they were going to get.
Minehead then took the game by the horns making use of the whole pitch and running their opponents up and down the sloping pitch.
Tom Bishop and Dave Swann added further tries before half time both scored from aggressive running and counter attacks from kicks deep back into the Minehead half where Kyle Lewis, Dom Westcott and Tom Lamacraft linked well.
Ninnis was able to add one conversion despite a difficult angle to make the score 17-3 at half time.
The second half saw much of the same, with Old Bristolians tiring and unable to keep up with the pace of the game or retain possession for long enough periods to test the Minehead defence.
Leigh Parker was next to get on the scoresheet and deservedly so for the work rate he showed all afternoon.
After five minutes of Minehead being camped on the visitors try line, Parker took a short ball from Bradley at number ten to step inside his man and use his size and power to cross the line.
Tom Lamacraft then added another when a kick which failed to make touch found fullback Kyle Lewis who found a gap out wide and raced up the hill creating a two on one with the winger, he passed to Lamacraft who raced in under the posts.
The conversion was added by Ninnis to make the score 29-3.
In the final stages of the game Minehead did not give up and kept up the pressure as their lineout of Willes and Henson, which had functioned well all afternoon, challenging every opposition ball.
The backs meanwhile are growing in confidence as each week passes and it was Tom Bishop who finished the game off, having moved to scrum half for the last twenty minutes.
He picked up from the back of the ruck to find a gap and canter over the line from ten metres out to end the game at 34-3.
Greg Richards was named the A & P Farmer man of the match for his impressive work rate and putting in the hard work for others to benefit from.
