ALCOMBE Rovers sent a message to the rest of the first division in the Taunton & District Saturday Football League with a thrilling 3–1 home victory over Bridgwater Sports.

From the very first whistle, Rovers looked hungry, pressing high and refusing to give Bridgwater a moment’s peace. Cullen Bruford set the tone with his tireless running and clever movement, constantly pulling defenders out of position with his brother Josh Bruford on the opposite side causing problems for the defence.

Behind them , the midfield trio of Liam Thorne, Cam Thompson, and Luke Hill bossed proceedings. The breakthrough arrived in the 24th minute after a passage of flowing football. Hill, spotting a gap, threaded a sublime outside-of-the-boot pass into Nathan Collins, who slotted past the keeper.

Ten minutes later, Collins doubled his tally, finishing smartly after more sharp approach play. The home crowd erupted, sensing something special was unfolding, as Rovers went into the break two goals to the good.

Sports came out fighting after half-time. For fifteen minutes they enjoyed their best spell, pushing men forward and forcing Rovers onto the back foot. But the defensive unit of Mike Graddon, Disney, Winters, and Eldridge stood firm. When Bridgwater did find a way through, they found goalkeeper Carl Paige in inspired form — producing a string of superb saves.

Having weathered the storm, Rovers struck the decisive blow. With Bridgwater stretched, a loose ball broke kindly in midfield and Cam Thompson pounced, before firing clinically into the bottom corner to make it 3–0. The third goal sparked joyous celebrations from the Alcombe faithful and sealed a fine victory.

It was a performance that showed Rovers are more than capable of mixing it with the very best this season.
