SATURDAY August 13 at 9am will see the start of weekly Parkruns in Minehead.
Parkruns are free weekly timed five-kilometre runs organised by volunteers and held across the UK and other parts of the world.
They aim to attract new people of all ages to run regularly and improve their fitness, and anyone of any ability can take part - even if they have to walk part of the course to start with!
Under 11s can take part if they run with an adult.
The Minehead run will start at the shelters on the seafront opposite the Beach Hotel. The course will consist of two 2.5k laps of the seafront from the shelters to the golf club roundabout and back.
After each weekly run, the coffee shop at the Beach Hotel will be open to enable runners to refuel, compare experiences and plan for next week’s run.
To find out more information on how to take part and to register, go to the parkrun website and follow the instructions.
You will need to get a barcode if you want to get a weekly time to see how you are improving your fitness every week.
Once you have done that, just turn up on Saturday mornings at 8.50am ready for the start.
All Parkruns are free because they are organised by volunteers, and the new Minehead one has a core volunteer team who have set up the initial organisation.
Different teams of volunteers will be needed to help run the event each week, and if you would like to help, you should speak to one of the team on Saturday mornings or email event director Graham Collins at [email protected] for information.
