ANOTHER long trip to Wadebridge in Cornwall for Minehead Cycling Club members for round three of the South West Cyclocross was very successful with two podium finishers, yet again in the dry with the course hard and fast.

First up was Louise Crossman (2nd V60), climbing well and negotiating the tight turns, she seems to be getting quicker at every race.

Stephen Crossman (8th V60) had to scrap all race to hold his place, eventually getting safely to the line ahead of some of his usual challengers.

Stephen said: “I was disappointed with my performance at the last race so I thought I’d better change my race plan, as we were in Cornwall I had a pasty which seemed to do the trick, I then had plenty of energy to attack this fast course”

Best race of the day was from David Bray (3rd V60). David said: “I got the holeshot yet again and lead for the first half of the race, pushing as hard as I could to drop the two chasing me. At risk of blowing up I had to ease off a bit which allowed those two past, I’ll have to try harder next week!”

MCC's next open event is the club's Audax on Sunday, October 19. An Audax is a non-timed, non-competitive, road event using scenic quiet lanes. This one, "Ken's Autumn Colours", starts in Minehead from the Sainsbury Hall at 9.30am. The route is about 65 miles and includes Wheddon Cross, Tiverton and Wiveliscombe.

Long time organiser, Richard Miles said: "As it’s not a race it’s always a friendly, sociable day, all riders will be rewarded with the traditional Minehead cream tea at the finish.

“I can enter you on the day but would prefer if you pre-entered using the Audax UK website."
