MINEHEAD Cycling Club members were in action at Round Eight of the South West Cyclocross series at Plymouth on Sunday.

Despite torrential rain and gale force winds during the setup, the weather eased during the event. Slippery and steep off camber sections, a stream crossing and the usual plank obstacles were the challenges.

This did not seem to bother Susannah Rook (J 1st) who took her first victory, keeping forward progress while making no costly mistakes. Louise Crossman (V60 1st) also sealed her series victory with a more comfortable two minute gap from her chasers.

Tim Rook (V50 20th) stayed upright to finish well, while Stephen Crossman (V60 10th) also raced cautiously, making sure not to get stuck in the mud. Also in the Veteran class was Matthew Waddams (V60 3rd), handling the conditions very well; he was only two seconds away from second and 30 seconds away from the win.
