MINEHEAD Cycling Club members were in action at the first of the winter South West Cyclocross series at Barnstaple.
Steve Toogood (V50 7th) started fast and held off pressure from behind in a competitive class, neatly negotiating the tight bends. David Bray (V60 3rd) showed the benefits of his summer training to gain a hard earned podium.
Stephen Crossman (V60 8th) kept a good pace to finish safely midfield. Tim Rook (V50 14th), on his debut, set laps within a few seconds of each other, but was eclipsed by his daughter Susannah (J 3rd) .
Louise Crossman (V60 1st) had another trip to the top step of the podium, powering up the grassy slopes to distance her rivals.
Scott Ellwood (V40 8th) climbed up through the field after a cautious start in this very fast class, setting excellent lap times.
Tim Rook said: "As a first timer, I'd say it was fun (albeit type 2 fun) and well worth a go!".
