STOGUMBER Under 13s have gone through the 2025 cricket season winning all 12 of their fixtures.
They were clear winners of the Taunton and District Youth Cricket League Under 13s 8s West and ended with 36 points, nine points more than their nearest rivals Yeovil with 27.
Several of those who played in the Stogumber team who beat near neighbours Crowcombe in the West Somerset League last week came up through the juniors including skipper Eli Hayes.
“We have been running the Under 13s for more than 20 years as I started off with them,” said Eli. “For a village team like ours it’s definitely important to get that continuous flow of young players coming up through the juniors and then going on to play for the senior sides.
“What’s so good about this year’s Under 13s is that they have been together now for several seasons and have become more and more successful which is good for everyone. It’s good to see so many girls playing cricket now - we have a good contingent of girls who make up the team.
“We also run an Under 15s side in conjunction with Bagborough which is called the Quantock All Stars. The next step up for those players is to try and get them playing in the mid week friendlies which we have every Thursday and then to play in the adult league team.”
Eli went on: “On a Friday night we have 30 or more 5-10 year olds who come along as well as the 10-13s and there are 15 or so of them every week playing in the nets , which is all very good news for the future of the club.”
Stogumber CC would like to thank Harris Residential for their generous sponsorship of the Under 13s shirts this season.
