SOMERSET warmed up for the upcoming Metro Bank One Day Cup competition later this month with a one-day National Counties match against Cornwall at Wadebridge.
After being put into bat Somerset lost opener Josh Thomas to the bowling of Ben Ellis in the sixth over with 16 on the board, which brought Archie Vaughan to the wicket.
Will Smeed and Vaughan then provided the large crowd with real entertainment as they added 196 in 25 overs, before the latter departed for 89 which came off 93 deliveries and included eight 4s and one 6.
Smeed and acting captain Lewis Goldsworthy took the total onto 255 when the former was out for 130 which he scored off 96 balls with 11 fours and five 6s.
Goldsworthy had moved onto 42 when he was fifth batter out which saw Somerset 293 for 5 after which there was little resistance and they were all out for 319 off the last ball of the innings.
Ellis was the pick of the home attack ending with 4 for 40 off 10 overs, while Ryan Tonkin claimed 3 for 53 - also from 10.
When Cornwall set about their run chase they soon found themselves 12 for 2 as Josh Shaw and JT Langridge accounted for the openers. John Moon was then joined by Cornwall skipper Alfie MacDonald who shared a third wicket partnership of 64 before Moon was bowled by Kian Roberts for 35.
MacDonald then saw a succession of wickets tumble at the opposite end until he was joined by Ellis with the total on 157 for 9 in the 39th over. The pair remained together to see Cornwall to 219 for 9 after 50 overs, MacDonald ending unbeaten on 107 off 125 balls while Ellis was not out 29.
For the visitors slow left armer Josh Thomas ended with 3 for 35.
