SOMERSET Senior Women have returned from Norway after a four-night tour based in Oslo, during which they played against the newly-formed Norwegian “Shining Aurora” senior team.
This was the inaugural tour for the Somerset Senior Women, who themselves were formed only a year ago - and it was a huge success.
Eleven players plus one medic played three matches at the Furuset Ground in Oslo and, although the weather tried its best to make its mark, it did nothing to dampen their spirits.
During their stay the Somerset team played three matches - T16, a T20 and a 30 over game were all squeezed in among the showers, hail and robust winds.
Jan Godman captained the team to a win over the hosts, in addition to which a special mention goes to Michelle Ho who batted her way to 80 runs across two matches.
The Somerset Senior Women would like to give huge thanks to the following tour sponsors who helped finance the kit: Jenny’s Plumbing; AMB Plumbing & Heating Supplies; Fleet 24 Ltd - vehicle repairs and van conversions; Carly Press – commercial printers; David “Webby” Webb.
The Shining Aurora are hoping to make the tour an annual event with Somerset attending every third year. They are looking for other senior women’s teams to get involved. Contact Roz Hartley for more information (07715 668248).
The Somerset Senior Women are also on the look out for their next tour, venue so get in touch if you need an opposition!
Team manager Roz Hartley said: “The whole tour was very successful and provided a fabulous way of bringing this group together; things couldn’t have worked out any better. Hopefully there are more senior women who would like to come and join us.”
Anybody who would like to find out more should call Roz on (07715 668248).
